Albemarle Schools Prepare For Budget Public Hearing

Albemarle Schools Prepare For Budget Public Hearing

The Albemarle School Board is getting ready for a Thursday night public hearing on a spending plan for next year. Superintendent Pam Moran (pictured) has told the board a gap that separates the schools’ funding request and the available revenues has dwindled to $6.7 million. Her staff found out the local contribution will be $200,000 larger than expected. Moran says a more than 30-year-old revenue sharing agreement with Charlottesville continues to work against the county’s interest. She also believes Virginia’s formula for funding public education is a hindrance for Albemarle and other counties where landowners qualify for conservation easements. The public hearing on the schools’ budget will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Lane Auditorium. It’s on the second floor of the main County Office Building on McIntire Road.
