A longtime state senator is retiring. Democrat Charles Colgan of Prince William County will step down next year after serving for close to 40 years. Colgan is 87 years old, and he says he’s turned down several requests from Governor McAuliffe to stay on. Democratic Caucus Chair Don McEachin says his party is preparing for Colgan’s retirement. Republicans currently hold a one-seat advantage in the State Senate.
