City Planners Say Landmark Hotel Is Blighted

City Planners Say Landmark Hotel Is Blighted

The Charlottesville Planning Commission sees the Landmark Hotel as a blighted property, and it hopes the City Council will agree. The commissioners want a larger and more secure fence around the stalled project, which has been a magnet for graffiti artists and homeless people.  They also favor giving Georgia businessman John Dewberry 30 days to secure the building. The commission heard Tuesday from representatives of the downtown merchants and several neighborhood groups. Businessman Michael Williams, who’s lived on the Downtown Mall since the 1970′, says he’s seen many people roaming around the unfinished structure. Williams believes Dewberry has no interest in maintaining the property. The City Council will take up the planners’ recommendations on February 3rd.
