Albemarle Police recently set up a drunk driving roadblock in the western part of the county. The checkpoint was held Friday (Dec. 20) on 250 West at Greenwood Station Road. Vehicles were checked from 10 o’clock Friday night until 1 o’clock Saturday morning. County Police say 261 vehicles passed through the roadblock during those three hours. Fourteen drivers were pulled to the side of the road for further investigation, and two drivers were given a field sobriety test. Police say those two were found to be sober and they were allowed to drive. Among all the vehicles, there were seven tickets for expired registration and one for expired state inspection. County Police say they’re encouraged that there were no DUI charges filed. They say specialized DUI enforcement patrols will continue through New Year’s Eve.
