Governor McAuliffe made a weekend stop in Albemarle County to meet with the State Police Association. He spotlighted his proposals to add up to 400,000 people to Virginia’s Medicaid rolls and have Uncle Sam pick up the tab. McAuliffe (pictured) says his budget amendments would include 2% pay raises for the State Police and other public employees. One proposed budget change would add $17 million to the Line of Duty Act Fund, which would help out the surviving families of state troopers and other public workers with hazardous jobs. McAuliffe has scolded the Republican controlled House of Delegates which has rejected his budget amendments. Most House members vigorously oppose expanding the Medicaid program. Meanwhile, the Governor says he’s sending a Virginia ham to Michigan’s GOP Governor Rick Snyder. McAuliffe and Snyder had a bet on the outcome of UVA’s battle with Michigan State University in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. If UVA had topped the Spartans, Snyder had agreed to send McAuliffe some Michigan cherries.
