McDonnell Corruption Trial Continues

Star witness Jonnie Williams finally left the witness stand Monday in former governor Bob McDonnell’s federal corruption trial. Williams is the former dietary supplement maker who showered McDonnell and his wife Maureen with $165,000 worth of cash, loans and gifts allegedly in exchange for product promotion. The McDonnells have denied that Williams received any special favors. Former top advisor Phil Cox took the stand and testified that when Jonnie Williams and Maureen McDonnell couldn’t land a meeting with GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney in 2012, Maureen McDonnell cornered Romney’s wife to tell her how Star Scientific’s Anatabloc could help Ann Romney’s multiple sclerosis. Cox said when he learned about that he was “horrified.” He called Williams “somewhat of a snake oil salesman.”
