Powhatan Official Who Made History Has Died

The longest-serving circuit court clerk in Virginia history has passed away. 92-year-old William Maxey, Jr. died on the Sunday before Christmas at his home in Powhatan County. Maxey began serving as the Powhatan Court Clerk in July 1957 and won his most recent re-election six years ago. He retired at the end of September.
