The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority will keep operating a facility near Ivy through June 2015. The board that oversees it also voted Tuesday to extend the life of the McIntire Road recycling center. Director Tom Frederick (pictured left) says maintenance projects were delayed at the Ivy site. Frederick has told City Public Works Director Judy Mueller (center) and City Manager Maurice Jones (pictured right) the RSWA staff made the decisions while it was toying with shutting it down this year. Some Albemarle residents are circulating petitions to keep operating the Ivy facility on a permanent basis. County officials have wanted to create three new convenience centers as drop-off sites and recycling centers. Many residents of the Keene and Mill Creek areas have vigorously fought proposals that involved their area.
