SBE To Review Valid ID Definition

SBE To Review Valid ID Definition

The State Board of Elections will re-evaluate the definition of valid identification under the new voter ID law. The board determined earlier this month that expired forms of identification will be accepted at the polls. The SBE has now voted to reconsider that regulation. A public comment period has been reopened for 21 days. At issue is whether the board actually has the authority to determine which methods of identification are valid. State Senator Mark Obenshain requested the review. Obenshain says he’s concerned that the board’s definition of “valid” conflicts with state law. The SBE also received a letter from 18 Democrats in the State Senate voicing support for the regulation.
